Welcome

My name is Anne Hara and I design and handcraft fine jewelry from Japan.

Through this blog, I share my thoughts, experiences, and learnings about designing and making fine jewelry.

Me with my favorite muse - my Japanese village dog, Umi.

I dove into the world of jewelry-making in autumn 2024 (I spent the better part of the previous decade in corporate and venture capital finance - so not a lot of relevant prior experience!).

I started apprenticing with an independent jewelry boutique in Tokyo, joined a metalsmithing school, and immersed myself in all things that glitter.

Two of my first 18k solid gold pieces: the Open Heart Pendant and the Entwined Hoop Earrings

I use a wide range of jewelry-making techniques to create my pieces. I fabricate metal, use the lost wax casting method, and particularly enjoy leveraging Mitsuro, a traditional and organic Japanese wax made from beeswax and pine resin. I am inspired by Japan’s longstanding tradition of excellent craftsmanship and hope to bring my interpretations of Japanese arts to life through jewelry.

Designs in Mitsuro (traditional Japanese wax)

Particularly with fine jewelry, designing and making pieces that people will treasure their entire lives is incredibly gratifying. My pieces often take months between concept to final version as I design, construct, and polish each item by hand.

Every week through this blog I share my new pieces, inspirations behind the designs, musings on the creative process, and the steps it takes to build a jewelry brand.
